Mindful Cities

The Mindful Cities Initiative (MCI) supports civic leaders across the country who are inspired to bring mindfulness into training programs for a cross sector of their communities’ leaders and staff.

We work closely with these leaders to help them fulfill their vision of bringing about a Mindful City based on the unique resources and opportunities in their community.

A New Phase

We think that MCI heralds a new phase in the development of mindfulness in society.

People are now talking about the benefits of mindfulness practice in holistic terms—about mindfulness in personal wellness and its role in public health, about mindfulness in the classroom and its role in public education.

Though the Covid-19 pandemic has slowed the expansion of MCI into new locales, we’ve spoken with over 20 leaders who are inspired about their community becoming a Mindful City and who are currently engaged in some form of training or education of civic leaders.

Mindful Cities

Inspiring MCI work is ongoing during our Pilot Phase, including in our flagship Mindful City Flint MI by the Crim Fitness Foundation’s Mindfulness Team; in Jackson WY by Becoming Jackson Whole, and Boston MA by Ivy Child.

Also deserving special mention is the mindfulness work being done by the Sustainability Services Department of the city of Fort Collins CO.
